I have already used the E-Sword site and directly submitted these ideas and I post this here with the following expectations:

a. The developer(s) of E-Sword occasionally read this forum.
b. You, the forum user will add your voice to mine in encouraging these changes.
c. Addons that I am unfamiliar with on this site that do these functions will be pointed out by those wiser than I.

My suggestion is best compared to Microsoft EXCEL.
I have an overload of plug-ins and commentaries that I hope to be alleviated by these suggestions.

I would like to see:
The ability to rearrange my bibles, dictionaries, and commentaries in order of preference... dragging and dropping their order similar to the way I can arrange workbook tabs in EXCEL.

I would also like to see the drop down of TOPIC notes to be considerably larger, Possibly even see the TOPICS have their own window separate from commentaries.

Additionally I would like the ability to hide the bible, commentary, dictionary, or topic directly by right clicking on the tab.

An ability to select \ assign the color of a tab would helpful... similar to "Colorful Tabs in the Mozilla Firefox web-browser. This way I can color code my commentaries and dictionaries... according to language, denomination, books used etc.

Being able to search across multiple commentaries and topics, bibles

The drop down in the graffics viewer should be able to be larger as well.

The ability to directly size the separate windows vice what I feel is somewhat confusing interface to arrange the various windows would also be helpful.

Thank you for reading...

Use other software as additional examples of the functionality you are requesting. Just saying "like Excel", or "like program x" does not help anybody. The developers may or may not use the program in question, much less be familiar with the specific feature that is being referred to

I won't go into the virtues of "sort alphabetically by file name", save to say that it is the simplest model for users to understand.

I think that the simplest solution all around, would be the creation of a utility program that renames the resource for the individual, prefixing the current name with alphanumberic characters.

Assuming base 16 is used:
* Eight characters would allow for 4 294 967 296 resources of each type;
* Six characters would allow for 16 777 216 resources of each type;
* Four characters would allow for 65 536 resources of each type;
* Two characters would allow for 256 resources of each type;

Topical files are the resource type that users are most likely t o have more than 256 resources of.

Whilst theoretically possible, my guess is that less than a dozen -- if that many --- users have more than 256 Verse Lists or Bible Reading Plans. (Depending on a couple of factors, this could, literally overnight, change.)

e-Sword 8.x, and lower, had a limit of 256 resources, for all other resource types. OK, technically Bibles didn't have that limit, but using more than that was non-trivial. Some components only permit one resource of the type it works with.

Theoretically, e-Sword 9.x allows for an unlimited number of resources, for all components except Bookmarks, Sermon Illustrations, Localization, Verse Analysis, and spelling.

Depending upon how many resources the individual has, it could take anywhere between ten minutes, to several hours, per resource type, for a prioritization resource to do its thing. Most of that time would be with the user deciding which resource they would prefer to come first, or prefer to come last.

###

The current workaround for this, is renaming the resource file name, with the first four characters of the file name being a number. Start with "0000" and end with "9999". (AFAIK, no resource type currently has more than ten thousand resources.)

+1.

FWIW, my RFE related to this, was a new component, that supplemented topical files. I'd keep the current layout, but have a new floating window, akin to the current MAP and STEP file windows.

Currently, e-Sword picks up the color scheme from the Windows theme that is used. I don't know how tab coloring would affect/be affected by that. The few times Rick has commented on this, he has implied that there is a technical issue in the tool chain he uses.

This is currently one of the major weaknesses of e-Sword.

There are a couple to work around this, but they don't all function "correctly" with all resources. :(
Nor are they always that "convenient" to use.

If you are referring to the width, that is user adjustable. (This is included in the documentation I'm working on.)

I'm not sure what you are requesting here. :(

I _think_ that the major issue here, is that users don't know how to configure/customize window settings for e-Sword 9.x. The lack of documentation on this is painfully obvious. (Video documentation is mandatory. PDFs with lots of screen shots would also be useful.) This is something I am working on.

Make a protable e-Sword which does not require any registry entries. One which can be loaded from a zip file and be ran from a portable drive such as a usb drive.
