Adding a new localized bible book name to be recognized by BeST
Adding a new localized bible book name to be recognized by BeST
BeST recognizes a large number of languages when importing bibles/commentaries/etc or tool tipping. This is done by looking through the list of book names in a built in list. The list is named "BibleBookAbbreviations.xml". If you create a file named BibleBookAbbreviations.xml in the BeST 2 application folder, it will be used to identify the book names.
Download the BibleBookAbbreviations.xml file (from HERE) and save it in your BeST 2 application folder. Then you can add your new localized name or abbreviation.
If you have a good text editor that handles unicode encoding (like UltraEdit), then you could try editing the file.
For example, if you wanted to add a localized book name for Genesis, you'd find the section within the .xml like below (I shortened it for this post)
<Book name="Genesis" eswordname="Gen" number="1" eswordchapters="50">
<abbrev>1 m</abbrev>
<abbrev>1 moos</abbrev>
<abbrev>1 mooseksen kirja</abbrev>
<abbrev>1 moosese</abbrev>
<abbrev>1 mos</abbrev>
<abbrev>1 mose</abbrev>
<abbrev>1 mosebog</abbrev>
<abbrev>1 mosebok</abbrev>
<abbrev>1 mózes</abbrev>
<abbrev>1 м</abbrev>
<abbrev>1. moos</abbrev>
<abbrev>1. mooseksen kirja</abbrev>
<abbrev>Genesis</abbrev>
</Book>
You would add a line that starts with <abbrev> followed by your localized name or abbreviation for Genesis, and ending with </abbrev> . It would have to be between the <Book name="Genesis" eswordname="Gen" number="1" eswordchapters="50"> and </Book> and between an existing </abbrev> and <abbrev> section.
So if I wanted to add "Jimmy the Greek" as a name for Genesis (using the above section as an example) it would look like:
<Book name="Genesis" eswordname="Gen" number="1" eswordchapters="50">
<abbrev>1 m</abbrev>
<abbrev>1 moos</abbrev>
<abbrev>1 mooseksen kirja</abbrev>
<abbrev>1 moosese</abbrev>
<abbrev>1 mos</abbrev>
<abbrev>1 mose</abbrev>
<abbrev>1 mosebog</abbrev>
<abbrev>1 mosebok</abbrev>
<abbrev>1 mózes</abbrev>
<abbrev>1 м</abbrev>
<abbrev>1. moos</abbrev>
<abbrev>1. mooseksen kirja</abbrev>
<abbrev>Genesis</abbrev>
<abbrev>Jimmy the Greek</abbrev>
</Book>
Save the file and put it in your "c:\program files\BeST 2.0 Standard" folder...
If you make a mistake and BeST crashes when trying to start up, just delete your new file and BeST will use it's internal version.
I need diffrent thing instead of just book name show up at the tab in my langugae
I would like to see bible name inside the reading area, lets say instead of showing me before verse "Gen 1:3",like this "Genesis 1:3" or for my need "Yaratılış 1:3"
So in this way i can make full integration with word, without later on editing "Gen" to "Genesis" or "Yaratılış" in my case.
Is that possible under e-sword?
