Obtaining earlier stuff
Sat, 07/04/2009 - 12:40
Hi everyone. Here's my situation. I love esword 7.8.5. I tried 9.0.3, and it's cool, but I really don't have the time, patience, or desire to convert everything I've created, accumulated or otherwise obtained over the last several years. I run esword on the Linux platform, and frequently install different distros and such. The problem this time is that when I did my latest computer format, I accidentally deleted a folder that contained the executables for the maps. I have looked everywhere for older versions of esword, and it's just about impossible to find. I see no place on the esword site to leave emails for the developer. So, here's the question. If a user prefers an older version, is that person just out of luck? Is there absolutely no access to anything but the current version? I bought the NASB years ago. I don't even know what email address I used way back then, so redownloading for version 9x is just about a lost cause. I have purchased lots of books over many years, and really have no recollection of where they came from or what information I need to redownload. I love what Rick is doing with this program, and I can't imagine the time he's investing in this task, but I'm very content with 7.8.5, and I believe I'm not the only one who prefers an older version. Does anyone here have an idea where I can get the 7.8.5 exe's for NASA maps and so forth? I would really appreciate it very much. Thanks!

Re: Obtaining earlier stuff
Hi Ed,
Like Edgar, I have copies of the original download for v. 7.07.0007; and pretty sure the maps.
If you think you would like to try these, just let me know.
Best wishes, George

If the resource can be legaly redistributed, and if the license it is distributed under allows format shifting, then it wil be available on this site (htp:/w.e-sword-users.org) for e-Sword Resource Format 1, e-Sword Resource Format 2, and Pocket e-Sword.
e-Sword 9.0.3 and Pocket e-Sword 3.1.0 are the only versions that are curently oficialy suported.
This site (e-Sword-users.org) wil provide suport for older versions, to the best of our ability. That suport does not extend to providing older versions of either program.
As far as the resources that you bought go, if you have your reciept, or eStudySource login, you can download the upgraded versions of the resources.

Re: Obtaining earlier stuff
I don't think the data format changed between v7 and v8, only from v8 to v9.
As far as email addresses are concerned, just use private messages. Under the person's picture toward the bottom - two little icons. You can send your email to another but don't broadcast it on an effectively open page.

There were some changes in the database tables between 7.8.6 and 8.0.1.

Re: Obtaining earlier stuff
Wow! I didn't anticipate this much help! Sorry for the underestimation. Thank you to everyone who responded with emails, replies here and private messages. I now have everything up and running the way I need it to be. I'm now using 8.0.6 and so far, it's just fantastic. Sorry for the late reply, but I haven't been online in over a week. Thanks again, and God bless!!
