I downloaded the converter, which is said to convert Bible(.bbl)into Bible(.bblx)files.

Not a single bible I put into it, which either came with my e-Sword over the years or any of the free bibles that I have downloaded over the years, would it convert. Every single one was password protected. Did I misunderstand. Not all the bibles, commentaries, and dictionaries I have are listed on the e-Sword site, and they originally came with e-Sword years ago.

Anumber of sites are distributing resources that were originally distributed from e-sword.net. It is quite possible that the resources you downloaded from those sites were originally password protected by Rick.

I'm hoping to get a list from either Rick, or Phil, of all of the resources that they have distributed.

I have been having the same problem. I am absolutely sure that all of the bbl modules that have asked for a password have NEVER needed a password and are NOT restricted. Does anyone have a solution? I haven't emailed goodolclint because he specifically says on his blog not to send queries related to password problems.

Are you saying that:

1. e-Sword has never asked you for a password for these bbl files or

2. You have opened them all in Ms-Access and it has never asked you for a password?

Blessings

Hey, Bigbro,

All of the files originally created by Rick at e-Sword.net are his files; they are all password protected. According to the license agreement, they are not supposed to be distributed on any other site. Unfortunately, sites like e-snips are not moderated well, and many people find resources there that should not be there; they should only be on Rick's site. In all of those instances, those files will not convert. The good news is that you can download them again from www.e-sword.net.

The copyright problems continue at e-snips and other places like it. It's not just Rick's files that are being illegally posted. So any time you run across a password protected file, you can just about be sure that it is copyrighted and not public domain. Examples are the NIV, RV1960 (Spanish Reina Valera 1960) and the BHS+; those are just examples, there are numerous copyrighted Bible texts in English or other languages that are copyrighted, and are not supposed to be freely distributed.

If you've paid to download any Bible versions from www.eStudySource.com (or .cmt, or .dct, etc.), you'll easily be able to log back into your account and download the files already formatted for version 9. Phil doesn't charge a second time for the new v9 downloads.

Re: Converting modules using e-Sword 9 Converter v.1.0.0

I upgraded tonight and I wasn't impressed and am totally unsatisfied.
I linked to the E-sword site on my church's website, but I'm gonna take it down until they put up a converter that actually works on their own resources.

I have most of the free Bible/Dictionary/Commentary files from E-Sword.net that were downloaded just since Christmas that won't convert.
(English Standard, Easy Reader, Henry's concise & complete commentaries etc....)

I understand all the copyright stuff AND I did NOT expect any of the user created mods to convert, but stuff from the source??? Come on...........

I tried re-installing a zipped back up of version 8 after I uninstalled version 9, but though it says it's running there's no window for it. Does anyone know where I can get the installer for version 8, mine is misplaced!! lol

I do have to give them credit, I did not have any issues with any of the stuff I had purchased from E-Study Resources, but I am still waiting on a reply about the premium content they link to but don't provide. 5 hrs and counting

Hey, Dukefan,

sorry you had such a difficult experience with the conversion. Here are a couple thoughts:

  1. None of the material originally downloaded from www.e-sword.net can be converted manually. You must re-download all of the new resources again.
  2. Some-to-Most-or-perhaps-All of the user resources will convert automatically - if you have them in your MyDocuments/e-Sword subdirectory. But they must be there the first time e-S 9 is opened.
  3. Read my blog on installing e-S9, then uninstall version 9 and try again. Read my blog here - http://e-sword-users.org/users/node/2182

If you still decide to go back to 8, contact me.

DrDave,
Thanks for your help.
I skimmed through your blog!! LOL HMMMMMMM I'll blame it on the late hour!! LOL
I'll tackle that at a time when my brain can fathom all you've written.

I looked through the my docs folder you mentioned and none of the topic notes are there, so I will copy them all into it and see if it converts them when I try this all over!!! LOL!!

If I can't get 9 up and running again, I will definitely be in touch.
E-Sword has been a great help to me and I am NOT giving up on it.
This program is truly inspired from above and everyone whom I've introduced to it loves it.

I am also unable to convert anything. It runs fine and lets me choose the source and destination for the converted file, but All of the topics, bibles, commentaries, and dictionaries are password protected. This is very disappointing because v9.03 does not have the septuagint with the strongs numbers, westminster confession, or the doctrinal works in the reformed tradition modules.
